The English Dream

Sat with Mum the other evening watching Britain's Got Talent. It didn't have my full attention but I felt really blue watching it. There is something so lonely about loud cheering and endless clapping. Booing and hissing. Ringing up and voting. Britain's Got More Talent on ITV2. Emptiness and loneliness.

It looks like a distorted view of happiness people have - as if people have been told this is what it is to be successful. The lightbulbs, the audience, being on the telly. Glaring into the screen saying "I want this more than anything" and begging to be saved.

Someone once said to me "If you could be famous just like that, wouldn't you want to be?"

Confetti rained on everyone once the winner was announced

And then once they have won it will just be more clapping and loud music and more eye squinting lightbulbs.

I know some people need a platform to "make it" but those brutal yet empty television shows like that should not be the way to do it.

I sometimes feel that people here think that this life ows then some form of fame and fortune. This sort of show is a quick fix rather than a lifetimes achievement. I guess the real question that then stems from this is are they happy. I somehow doubt it or it is short lived. The fame is shallow and I doubt comes with respect.

To spend time during your life helping others, not looking for th next big reward. May not give you fame, but a feeling of well being.
The respect of others along with friendship. This itself should all also be covert and not thrust upon others.

The results come in the strangest of ways. The most important being th inner glow you feel just as you turn off the light at night.

And you will never feel lonely again.

Now to cruise into the sunset.

Hello David,

"This sort of show is a quick fix rather than a lifetimes achievement."
That is exactly what it is!

That is why it's so empty and you know nothing will become of them and it's sad as it looks like they don't realise they will come to nothing.

Even when I see them have success such as having a number one album, it is so manufactured and forced, that it doesn't feel successful.

I feel like singing in a bar where no one knows your name but you're doing it how you want seems to ooze so much more pleasure and 'success'.

A sense of well being - I agree. Being successful spiritually, even if you find that in volunteering for a cause you care about, spending afternoons fishing or just being a friend to someone, is so much more important.

Thanks for your comment!
Jenny

"Never deny them bacteria as it may be the only culture they have."
Amusing but sometimes true.
